Join us for a friendly, fast-paced film scoring challenge! First, we’ll meet up to explore the art of scoring for film, including technical lessons and useful analysis to help bring your music to life. Then, you’ll have one week to craft your own soundtrack for a scene using virtual instruments—or feel free to record live parts if you’d like. Finally, we’ll come back together to share, celebrate, and get fun, constructive feedback to level up your skills. Whether you're a seasoned composer or just curious about film music, all are welcome—let’s make some movie magic!

Story First, Music Follows! – Film scoring isn’t just about great music—it’s about storytelling. Every scene has a rhythm, a form, and an emotional arc. Focus on the characters, subtext, and the rhythm of the edit, and the right music will naturally take shape.
Know Your Tools! – You’ll need to be comfortable working in the DAW or notation software of your choosing—whether that’s managing virtual instruments, recording live parts, exporting audio, or synchronizing sound to picture (don’t worry, we can help with that last part!). Embrace Feedback & Grow! – This isn’t about crafting an Oscar-winning score—it’s about pushing yourself, learning, and improving. The vibe will be fun and supportive, but honest feedback is key to leveling up your skills. So come with an open mind, experiment, and enjoy the process! |
Bringing Music to Picture - We're open to creative approaches, but you'll likely need a computer with a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) such as Logic Pro, Cubase, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, FL Studio, or Reaper. Comfort with your chosen DAW or notation software is key—whether it’s managing virtual instruments, recording live parts, or exporting your final track.
You’ll need to open a movie file in your DAW, sync your music to picture, and export your final audio. Ideally, you’ll merge it with the film as a MOV or MP4, but don’t worry—we can help with that final step if needed. Just focus on getting your audio exported, and we’ll take care of the rest! |
